Everything you need to know about Permanent Make up treatments…

One of my passions in life is to create permanent makeup treatments for eyebrows, eyes, lips and cheeks. No one treatment I perform is ever the same and are as individual as each and every one of my clients. Each one of my clients has different facial features, structure, and skin tone, which all influence the treatment in different ways.

I am a specialised Permanent Makeup Practitioner in South Wales.

I specialise in a range of cosmetic permanent makeup options which can beautifully enhance your look – from natural hair stroke brows to stunning eyeliner and flattering lip blushes. Don’t worry if you’re not sure which option is right for you, I am on hand to help you decide.

Permanent Makeup is often an essential treatment if you suffer from hair loss or are self-conscious about certain areas. If you want to lose the pencils, powders and pomades and no longer have to worry about makeup wiping or melting off then this is the prefect option for you. I specialise in extremely natural results, enhancing your features without a heavy, obvious look. Each treatment will start with an in-depth consultation and I will pre-draw everything to make sure you are comfortable with the expected results. (More info to see Commonly and FAQ) If Permanent Make up is right for you…please be in touch to book in for a free no obligation consultation where you can discuss the treatment procedure, expectations and aftercare. A patch test is required at least 48hours prior to your treatment. To Keep your Permanent Make up looking perfect a colour boosting top up is recommended every 12-18 months.

Commonly asked questions

What is the difference between Permanent Make Up and Semi Permanent Make up?
Is Permanent Makeup really permanent?

The simple answer is….not a thing - This treatment used to be referred to as Semi Permanent Make Up as the results are not truly permanent as with a normal tattoo. However as some pigment may remain in the skin (whether you can see it or not) It Is now called Permanent Make Up. Other terms that may hear are:

These all refer to the same treatment whether your treating brows, lips or eyes.

Is Permanent Make Up really permanent?

Easily the most frequently asked question! This really is the most difficult question to answer as there are so many variables such as – the technician, the clients skin type and health, the pigments that were used and depth of the work, exposure to sunlight, medications etc etc etc. The easiest answer that will be applicable to most clients is that we expect most treatments to last somewhere between 12-36 months and recommend a maintenance session at around 12 months for Eyebrows and 15-18 months for all other procedures to keep the colour fresh.

Is PMU a tattoo?

PMU is not a traditional tattoo although I use a very similar technique to implant the colour, I work at a different depth in the skin and use pigments rather than inks, these factors all play a large part in how ‘permanent’ the treatment will be.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it hurt ?

It is completely normal to feel anxious about the procedures. I use a range of topical anaesthetics to ensure that you are as relaxed as possible during the treatment and that any discomfort is kept to an absolute minimum. Most clients describe the sensation as ‘tingling vibrations’ rather than pain and many fall asleep during the procedure.

Who can have the treatment ?

Providing that there are no medical contraindications, anyone over the age of 18 can have permanent make up. A patch test will be carries out at least 48hours before the procedure and can discuss the results during your consultation.

Is it permanent ?

The pigment will affect everyone differently depending on skin tone, sun exposure, lifestyle and medication. The treatments can last several years but due to the elements listed above I do recommend an annual maintenance appointment.

How long does it take ?

Procedures vary in length and can range from between 90 minutes to 2 hours, I am happy to discuss this during your consultation.

What can I expect before the treatment ?

Please do not have any lash/brow tinting or perming for 2 weeks before and after the treatment, please remove contact lenses before any lash enhancements. You will receive a welcome pack which includes full pre and post treatment instructions.

What can I expect after the treatment ?

Following the treatment you make experience some redness and swelling, the skin may flake from around day 4 – this can be minimised by applying the aftercare balm. The pigment will appear darker and more defined on the day of the treatment and will reduce by up to 60% once the skin has completely healed. I recommend attending the control visit (between 4-6 weeks post treatment) to assess how the pigment has settled and any touch ups that are required.

HAIR STROKE EYEBROWS

Whether your brows are sparse, over plucked or simply in need of definition, hairstroke brows can transform your look.

This has become very popular over the last couple of years and is now often considered a part of many women’s beauty regime.

We use a a fine needle to create the look of individual hair strokes which are extremely natural and mimic your own eyebrow hair. This is the perfect option for anyone who wants to define and shape their brows without having to apply pencils, powders and pomades every day. Whether you suffer from sparse, over-plucked eyebrows, alopecia or simply need definition, this can transform your appearance. I specialise in creating extremely natural results and have developed techniques for the most hyper real hair strokes that look exactly like your own hair.

Why have a brow treatment?

Brows really can make a huge difference to how we look, almost above all other facial features, if you suffer from Alopecia or hair loss following chemotherapy then the lack of brows can be crippling for your confidence especially if you are constantly worrying about brow pencil at work, in the heat, rain or during sports.

Fortunately, there is a better option with Permanent Makeup, this allows us to have our brows ready and weather-proof 24 hours a day without the need for makeup or any tinkering with pencils, powders or pomades!

Which treatment should I chose?

The options for permanent makeup today are endless, you may have heard the following terms:

Microblading, hair stroke brows, powder brows, Ombre, 3D brows, brow embroidery micropigmentation, brow tattoo.

Not sure which treatment would be right for you? I am on hand to help decide on the right treatment, shape, colour and thickness of your brows. The shape will be drawn on before any work is carried out to make sure that you’re totally happy with the end result.

EYELINER

Permanent eyeliner is a must have treatment for anyone who wishes to define their eyes – there is a range of options from a discreet, barely there lash liner to a stronger evening look to suit every face.

Do you struggle to apply your eyeliner or find that it smudges and smears during the day?

If you wear contact lenses, have allergies to makeup or would just like to wake up with a more defined eye then let me create the perfect look for you. I will work with you during your consultation to find the most flattering shape and colour for your treatment, you will be left with a beautiful, long lasting liner.

If you have sparse eyelashes or simply don’t have the time or skill to apply eyeliner then this is a great option. I will apply a discreet line within the lashes making your eyes look more defined and with fuller lashes. This is a great option for anyone who wants definition of the eyes but without a visible liner, great for those with hair loss or very fair lashes.

Natural Eyeliner

This is the most popular option for eyeliner, it’s a subtle but defined eyeliner for those who want more than a lash line but with a natural result. I create a thin liner close to the lashes and can add a fine wing or not if you prefer.

Extended Day Liner

Wider than the Natural Eyeliner, this look is still natural but with a thicker line above the lashes and a cat’s eye extension.

Evening Liner

The evening liner is a bold, thick line above the lashes incorporating a winged cat’s eye, great if you prefer an evening look to your eye makeup. If you would like more information or to book your appointment, please contact me.

OMBRÉ BROWS (Powder Brows)

A well-defined and shaped brow is one of the most important features on the face and can create the most immediate, positive impact. Whether your brows are sparse, over plucked or simply in need of definition, permanent makeup can transform your look.

There are several options for permanent brows including individual hair strokes, colour wash or ‘brow mist’ which appears as soft powdered finish.

Brows really can make a huge difference to how we look, almost above all other facial features, if you suffer from Alopecia or hair loss following chemotherapy then the lack of brows can be crippling for your confidence especially if you are constantly worrying about brow pencil at work, in the heat, rain or during sports.

3D lip liner

The Permanent lipstick treatments give you fuller, younger looking lips with a colour that is incredibly flattering to your skin and best of all, no need to constantly reapply lipstick or liner.

Often as we age, we can start to lose the definition around the lips and cupids bow, you will also notice that the lips aren’t as richly coloured as before. Sometimes we are simply born with a lack of pigment or asymmetry in this area.

3D Lip Blush

This is the most popular lip treatment; I define the lip border and cupids bow and then add a wash of custom blended colour to the lip but without the obvious lip border that can look outdated.

I blend a pigment that will be the most flattering to your skin tone and the type of shade that you prefer. I then draw the lip template, making the lips more even in shape and as full as possible. Due to new techniques, the colour is lightly implanted using very fine needles, this is not only far more comfortable for the client but also gives a modern look of a ‘tint’ rather than the outdated lipstick look of previous years. This treatment leaves the lips looking fuller, more youthful and without the need for lipliner.
